We selected her look not just from photos but from the live video feed of the Oscars with AP. Her presence and modern look matched the wardrobe and it seemed forward thinking. It was the perfect length and had a ball appearance yet the top had a modern design to it. The only improvement might have been longer earnings; overall a great look. 10/10

Is
your mojo getting beaten by all the political mumbo jumbo that you hear all
around you? Is the cold snapping your
once loose and happy disposition? Yeah,
the economy is quite dismal, and the snow and rain doesn’t help much. But one thing you can always count on is an
upcoming vibrant line up in the world of fashion and design. In this world, those dark moody things you
have to cover yourself up with in the winter…way back in the past…so one month
ago. Okay, it’s literally still upon us,
but notice the title of the article, “Spring Forward.” And this is fashion, where creativity and
passion is never at a scarcity. This is
its lifeblood after all. So, here’s to
looking forward because this is the season for flowing comprehensive design and
vivid brilliance. This is the start of your
Spring season style extravaganza.
Instead
of reiterating all the fashions that have been showcased on various runways and by
various designers across the globe, I thought it would be great to narrow the
selection down to an elite 10 based on popularity, usage, and overall social
practicality...I mean, if you can’t wear it in public, what’s the point
right? Here we go…
Tri-Color
Contrasts
Spring is when nature just bursts out and shines anew. So, why not express the vibrant spirit of the season in what you wear, right? Use the full range of the optical spectrum to pull this look off, but make sure they offset each other in a way as to visual intrigue and add character to your style. I wouldn’t recommend going beyond three colors either because you run the risk of being too busy to the eye…keep it calm and work with a small palate. Doing this will make it easier for you to accessorize. It’s how you carry the thematic trio you chose that provides coherence to the whole picture after all. Just work with it.
Animal Magnetism:
Birds
There’s something about birds
that just captures one’s imagination. A
symbol of freedom and soaring beauty which can emulate the grace and form of
the modern woman, it’s not a surprise that the fashion designers of today would
gravitate to such an attractive theme to utilize within their work. The design is absolutely adorable on
dresses. The bird’s versatility in the
human mythos makes it usable in various thematic representations ranging from
abstract vivacity to something intricately vivid and telling. Therefore, ladies, keep on the lookout
because you might be seeing more of these coming your way…it’s a nice option to
have.
Stylish Anoraks
For you ladies looking for a
more sporty option for your Springtime exploits, nothing really does it better
than a designer anorak, ¾ sleeve…there’s just something about it that just says
you’ve got it going on walking down the coast with some short shorts and shades. It’s an item that envelops your casual, active
spirit with sleek sophistication…that’s a sensory combination that can only be
described as a total head-turner. Try it
out and see how it accentuates the style and theme you’re going for.
Peplum Sophisticated
Whether you’re looking for
something that strikes in elegance or dazzles in dainty flare, a peplum is fun
to utilize when showcasing the depth of your stylistic character. I happen to think that this look is best used
to cater to one’s exhibitionist spirit.
It’s an extension of the garment…kind of like an emotive boost to your
thematic preferences. For example, if
you’re aiming for something flashy and glitzy, your figure definitely deserves a
peplum that highlights the vivacity, energy and tone you are looking for, but if
you’re looking to formalize your visual character, you might look for something
less loud. It’s like a wavelength monitor
of your expressional mood. It just
depends where you are on this spectrum at the moment. But when you decide where you are, go for it
and don’t hold back. Express yourself in
how you feel your stylistic spirit leads you.
Baroque Print
If you’re looking to be the
princess of the ball, baroque influenced print and design might very well add
that reverence of regality to your style you’ve been looking for. Through its many interpretations, the style dazzles
in an aesthetically sound collaboration between focal fluidity and intricate
stability. Strength within beauty is the
appeal and what makes the look all the more classic. Its dainty infusion into modern concepts of
form and figure is also to be appreciated and is as much a part of the now as
it is of what we have historically found visually intriguing.
Flowing Vivid Color and Pastels
Sometimes simplicity is just as
sweet as it can get. Ever wonder why
guys remember the “Lady in Red” more than anyone else? It’s the focus. Singularity is powerful, but don’t forget it
is also free form despite what your sensory synapses interpret as solid
color. A sole color can be molded, and it
conveys a theme in a much unifying and cohesive manner than some of the most
intricately colored designs because of the dominance of the singularity. So, if you’re going for something light and pastel,
you might think soft and flowing, gliding along like the springtime beauty you
know you are. But, you could even go
further. What does ocean blue make you
think about? I already gave you a hint,
didn’t I? You could search for an
ensemble or dress that mimics the nature of that representative
environment. You could imagine something
jagged yet encompassing like a sea shell, for example, and fit it to your
form. Or perhaps, you feel like you’re
on fire lately and want the flames of your passion to swirl around you in
fabric form, visually impactful and dynamic.
It’s up to you. Have fun. Think about it and see what you can come up
with.
Drop Waist
I call this the gunslinger look…shooting
right into some lucky dude’s heart. This
continues with the theme of fluidity for this season as the garment is given
the freedom to flow through its own design and character. Really, it’s all about the belt in this one,
being the anchor between form and fabric.
It becomes one of the most memorable pieces in this look because it’s an
obvious focal point. So if you want to
be creative, you could even find another belt that suits your personal taste
and accentuates your expressional dynamicity, while having other accessories
expand on this theme.
Futuristic Prints
The gleam and content of this style
of print is an intriguing option for you ladies looking for something that awes
in intricate design and expressional volume.
The major thing to keep in mind with this style is the framing. In all of its flare and independence, you
really need stability to provide coherence to this look or run the risk of
getting lost in your creation. For
ensembles involving tops and bottoms, I really suggest just keeping the print
either above or below the waist, but not both.
It just becomes too crowded.
Futuristic print one-piece dresses on the other hand are fine, but still
a little framing of some underlying color could be useful in pulling off this
particular style. It’s a bit tricky…kind
of abstract…but when you figure it out, you’ll definitely have that “wow”
factor.
Matte Satin Fabric
There’s something about this
fabric that makes me think “Blade Runner.”
It just shouts smooth elegance in its shimmer and form…it’s like a new
world order of fashion. Obviously a
perfect option for special events and occasions, this could also add a bit of
flash to your everyday life when you’re looking to power through the corporate
ladder with sleek confidence and professional sophistication. It’s a very metropolitan fabric in my view
and can be used in many ways you may see fit.
Metallic Skirts and Bottoms
Finally, we come to your party
option…the metallic style fabric…I think the advice I gave for futuristic
prints basically goes with this one as well due to the sheer loudness and impact
of this style of garment. However, I
feel that this particular style belongs solely below the waist, keeping the
torso at calmer tones. I mean, the last
thing you want is some guy to come up to you and get blinded by the gleam. You want the focus on the top to be your
face. So, work the accessories, maybe
even the makeup if you want (don’t overdo it though). Get some brilliant earrings, a flashy purse,
and maybe a bracelet or watch that matches that vibrant bottom. Let all that brilliance frame the most
important part…you…and you’ll see that this option works wonders even outside
of the runway.
In conclusion, there are so many
things to look forward to when Spring arrives later this year. So, get in on those clearance sales and
prepare for the new things coming to you soon.
Remember, it’s you who makes the style, not the other way around. If you keep that in mind, you’ll do

We’re
all familiar with the significance of the time honored tradition of the
published yearbook. At that time in our
lives with all the problems in the world just beginning to hit us
(relationships, school, playground politics), we might not even really notice
it, or perhaps we react like Melissa Joan Hart in “Can’t Hardly Wait” just
taking the whole concept to an entirely new level of giddiness. No matter how you felt about it at the moment,
it is undeniable that those photos in that particular book of faces will in a
way define your time as a youth. In that
regard, shouldn’t you have the freedom to put anything you like into the pages
of that publication especially when it involves you and how you would like to
be remembered…as long as it’s not offensive, of course? That’s exactly what 18-year-old Sydney Spies
thought when she submitted a particular photo to the yearbook editing staff in
Durango, Colorado, a piece of photography that garnered quite a bit of
controversy.
Sydney submitted the following photo to her school’s yearbook staff, which was initially accepted and then suddenly rejected after Christmas break.
So, from there she turned in another photo…
This was also rejected. Both photos were deemed too revealing.
The school stated that they had a standard to uphold citing a precedent of another case involving a young man that submitted a shirtless picture of himself in a previous incident. They rejected that because it risked the reputation of their publication. Understandably, school yearbooks aren’t traditionally that freeform and creative. Take it from a Catholic school boy…I know…they wouldn’t even let me wear my favorite leather jacket and sunglasses…plain solid color slacks and polos…not cool, dude…but hey, an educational institution has rules and standards. That gets us prepared for life in society under the rule of law. Sure, I get the point of view.
Sydney argues however that the
aesthetic spirit behind the photos were for the purpose of showcasing her
interests, which many other students did through their own photos. In her case, it happened to be modeling. She believes the school administration was
the cause of the ultimate decision against her photos, which she found fault
in. To support her argument, she referenced
Colorado Statue which states "students of the public schools shall have
the right to exercise freedom of the press” and “no expression contained in a
student publication, whether or not such publication is school sponsored, shall
be subject to prior restraint."
Thus, Sydney feels unjustly treated by the school in what she describes
as censorship of her self-expression.
Here’s the major clincher in the
issue though…the school is willing to let the photo run after all of this…yeah,
for $300 bucks on the ad page…so, what was the issue again? I mean, it’s getting into the book after all
the back and forth. It may not be on the
main photo pages but come on now…you really can’t say that being in the back of
the book or on some ad page that this photo is like so not going to be any “less
offensive” or observable…yeah right…might even be more visible with everyone
flipping over to the back to get those signature pages signed, assuming both
the ads and the signature pages are at the back of the publication, which they
usually are…if they aren’t, so what? It
still creates an enigma in reason and logic.
Why would a photo, which was deemed unacceptable to print at all, be
reconsidered for, well…consideration…the monetary kind…for inclusion in another
page of the same publication? What precedent
does this case create concerning this school’s standards?

BIO
My name is Samira Chatila, I was born in Iran, Tehran. At the age of six my family moved (me, my mum & dad) to Japan, Kobe where we lived for a year and then at the age of eight we moved to Thailand, Bangkok where my family still resides till now.
My two brothers, Hamed and Hesam and my sister Sahar were all born in Thailand. We moved there because Thailand is one of the centers of the world for jewelry business. My father Hatam Kazemeni, a man with lots of wisdom gave our family lots of opportunity to travel the world because of his business. Growing up in Thailand as an Iranian girl and traveling the world has given me an opportunity to see the world as a community where I believe interaction and communication are a key to a more united world where we live.
I went to a British elementary school and then an international high school in Thailand (Ruamrudee International School) . Growing up in Thailand allowed me to learn about different cultures and religions of the world and to interact with so many different nationalities. My family was a part of many different international organizations and charity events which allowed me to see the importance of giving and not expecting.
I also had to learn about my country and represent it in so many occasions especially since we did not really have a Persian community there and I enjoyed learning about all the beauty and the positive aspects of representing my culture.
The other positive aspects of living abroad were I learned the Thai, Indian, English and the Persian language all at the same time. I learned to celebrate all the new years and took all the positive points of each culture.
At the age of 18 I came to the United States, Los Angeles, to pursue my Education in International Business and Marketing at Loyola Marymount Univeristy.
At the age of 24 I graduated and started my own business SAMIRA GEM CREATIONS INC, in downtown jewelry district. I sell both costume jewelry and silver jewelry.
Then I got married to Edy Chatila. We had an amazing wedding in a hotel by the river in Thailand in 2001. My husband who is the owner of (Diamonds by edy) sells diamonds jewelry and diamonds.
We met in 1994 and have been together for almost 17 years. Edy is an amazing husband who supports me in all my dreams and we have a successful marriage today and are happy in all aspects of our life because we have a great communication and an amazing loving relationship. Then I was blessed with my son Amir Chatila, who is 5 years old.
Today, I am where I want to be in my life and have learned that success is not always what you have but it is measured by what you have sacrificed to get to where you are. One of the best joys in life is working and my best teacher has been my experiences with traveling and communication with people.
The three words that describe me are spontaneous, ambitious, and honest.
I see things the way they are and I believe there needs to be more truth in the world. Through diplomacy we can always believe and say the truth. What you see is what you get.
Since I have joined Exotifit and it has only been less than 2 months so much opportunities has opened up for me. All these have happened while running for ms exotifit Iran 2011. Maria has an energy I can not explain and so much good has happen for me.
The excitement of the media with Maria and the confidence gave me the confidence to go on Persian TV (asre emrooz) to sell my jewelry. Every Monday at 4:00 pm it will be live and you can also watch it on www.glwiz.com under asre emrooz. I am also promoting to help woman who want to open their own business for $500 to be able to that. And on my first show I was able to that.
On April 27th Maria and I and Elena (Ms.Ukraine) attended a function where I met Palos Verde’s TV and Arshad Kazmi has taught me so much he had me interview several people from the pageant and the hosts and Maria on media appreciation on April 30th at Maria’s house and taught me so many things. Which helped me on my TV jewelry shows. And I would like to further help him with other charity events. Which I am planning to do right after I finish my Pageant. That is one of my plans.
I also was able to talk so freely about loosing my mum 3 years ago in all the interviews it was like a therapy itself. It helped me to finally decide to make an organization for families whom lost their families to cancer. I am also working on a website that people whom are a victim of cancer or their families can go on the website and the one with the best story will be given a piece of my favorite jewelry. Every month I plan to pick the one with the best story. So I want a website where people can get information and input their own. So like it would be a group therapy for them too. And where people would talk about different natural methods they are using as well. I would like to dedicate it to Sharareh’s cancer group therapy. Dedicated to my mum.
I am also working on a retail website which will be done in a week for my new line of jewelry. And a section for woman whom have their own business and how they can put their input to help give courage to other woman to start their own business.
This pageant has brought a lot out of me. I am pushing myself as far as I can reach and it is working. I am making lots of great connection for my self and for the pageant. I feel that there is so much to achieve and with all these I would like to expand my business and use part of my ability both financial and time to help others.I deeply thank all my friends, family, media, the pageant, exotifit, Maria, my amazing husband for believing in me in such a short time and I feel I have succeeded more than I taught possible.
